This is my local taco stop, and man are we ever lucky to have a place like this. It's an unadorned shop in the back of a grocery store (try the doughnuts, freshly made every day!), and they make some of the best tacos in PDX.
I recommend a lot of things here, but my go to are the tacos. Extremely affordable for a quick and filling lunch. If you're looking to experiment and you haven't had it before: try the lengua. It's soft, fatty, and perfectly cooked.
Also amazing is there guacamole salsa. Somewhere between a sauce and a guac, this dressing is so good I literally buy a small cup of it to bring home and serve on my morning eggs. Remember that they have strict rules on how much salsa you can take for free, so if you want to indulge, ask the person at the register to buy a larger portion. You won't regret it!
This is a lovely place filled with great people. It isn't fancy, but the best stuff hardly ever is. Highly recommended! -

This is probably one of the best Mexican restaurants in the Area. Coming from San Diego area, I have high expectations for Mexican food, but boy this place does not disappoint.
I had the El Pastor, Carne Asada tacos with Menudo soup. The tacos are straight up Mexican style street tacos, which were amazing. I enjoyed the Menudo more than the tacos just because I had a lil too much to drink last night and I needed something to sober up and warm my tummy.
The soup is savory and rich of flavors. You can add some lemon in there to give it an extra citric taste. Portion was huge which is always a plus when it comes to food.
Overall I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to try some authentic Mexican food. -

Coming from LA... this has been one of the best Mexican spots I have experienced in Portland. Their salsas are amazing and actually don't cater to the white pallet that so many other Mexican spots here do. Their habanero salsa is to die for and their guacamole is delicious. I actually think their carnitas and pastor are better than the asada... which is surprising but just my taste preference as I usually prefer asada. I usually get 2-3 tacos depending on how hungry I am. Also had a torts here and it was super filling and yummm. Really excited to try the camarones a la Diabla
Their mercado has Mexican candy and pan dulce and a small produce section

I was still hungry from lunch and decided to get a few tacos. The tacos al pastor were super tasty and fresh. I liked that they had roasted whole peppers that you could get an an avocado-based salsa. The flavors were really good, and the tacos were only $1.50 each!

Love love love this place!!!!!! Such a nice staff, and great salsa--one with avocado. Fried jalapeños! Everything is delicious. My favorite thing about St. John's.
